Training

We train at Rookwood School in Andover. They have a great sports hall that provides us with a lot of space for training. The class runs from 7.30pm to 9.30pm and includes a warm up, technical training and time for sparring.

We welcome new and experienced fencers alike to the club to train and spar in a variety of weapons and styles.

Classes cover a mixture of different weapons including Longsword, Sword and Buckler, Sabre and more. We teach from a variety of historical texts and source material from Germany, Italy and England.

HEMA as a martial art and competitive sport is growing throughout the UK and the World. With the success and popularity of TV shows such as Game of Thrones, Vikings and The Last Kingdom, people are keen to see what it is really like to face someone with the type of sword you see in these tv shows. This is what we offer you, the opportunity to learn historic techniques and to fight with a sword in a safe and controlled environment with like-minded people.

Andover HEMA is the sister club of Basingstoke HEMA which is a member of BMABA (British Martial Arts and Boxing Association)

Our Basingstoke club has grown since we started in 2020 from just a handful of people to regular classes of 25-30 people. We have a fantastic community feel, lots of fun, enjoy training and fencing together.

We are now bringing HEMA to Andover.
